Tony Alderman is a true lover of community. He strives to learn about the surroundings that shape the

people in the communities he paints, and to understand how the community impacts their

environment.

For the last 15 years, Tony’s focus has been on nautical and coastal paintings as well as historical rural

and urban life. His early art training was through the BFA program at University of Mobile under the

direct tutelage of the amazing Charles (Mac) M. Clark.

Like many artists, Tony’s vision has grown and changed through the years, but he always finds himself

drawn to those images that speak of life well spent and well worn. He creates images that hold the

stories of joy as well as tragedy: the shrimp boat coming in with nets furled on her sides to dry after a

day of fishing or the rain on Core Sound after the loss of 9 people in a plane crash on the sound.

Today, Tony lives in Durham North Carolina with his wife Catherine. He much prefers to be in his studio

– but when not there, he’ll be found looking for a good cup of coffee and conversation. He returns to

the coast as often as possible for meditation and inspiration.

Tony has been an exhibiting artist for over 40 years. His work can be found in many corporate and

private collections both nationally and internationally.
